Canon Camera Lens - EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens Review

The Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens classified and designated as a macro lens. This Canon Camera Lens has shortest (in both physical length and focal length), it's categorize as mid-level lens for Canon. This Lens is very slightly soft wide open, sharp at f/3.2 and very sharp after f/4-5.6. Color and contrast are very good. Full frame body users will see some vignetting wide open

As a macro lens , Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens offers just 1:2 (.5x) magnification, comparing with in most true macro lenses 1:1 (1x). But if we coupled with the optional accessory Canon Life Size Converter EF, the Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens can focus down to 1:1 life size, unfortunately its really expensive the price about as much as the lens itself. This Canon Camera Lens does not feature USM (Ultrasonic Motor) focusing. As the matter of fact its noisy when focusing and slow to focus. This Canon Camera Lens also does not provide a lens hood for the 50 macro, but it is not so important for this lens as the front element is recessed deep into the lens and this lens shows good resistance to flare.

Some of the best part of this Canon Camera Lens It can controlled distortion is very well with close subjects (important in a macro lens). Its optical performance, which is first rate, makes canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens a brilliant choice for the photography of artwork like paintings, drawings, sculpture . Moreover, canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens can be used as a normal 50mm lens.

This build quality of this lens is very good, and way better than canon EF 50mm f/1.8 which use plastic mount and its really not recommended. Its build is also better than that of the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM because the latter does not have proper USM, but Micro USM which uses small gears that wear out and is prone to breakage if subject to falls and blows. In contrast, the AFD (Arc Form Drive) motor of the EF 50mm f/2.5 more durable, and the mount is of sturdy metal. The Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens has a 6-blade aperture while the 50 f/1.4 has an 8-blade aperture.

So, If you need both (50mm normal and macro) in one lens - the Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens is for you! If 1:2 macro is good enough, the Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Macro Lens is a good value lens. Image quality is very good.

Cons: Noisy when focusing, slow to focus.
Prons : Sharpness, great Macro (for a 1:2-half life size), light, metal mount.
