Setting and combining aperture and shutter speed to get good image is one of the Digital Photography Basics technique. Knowing it deeply will help you to maximize the function of your camera to make good photo. Because Aperture and shutter speed will control which area will in focused or blurred and frozen, that's why combination aperture and shutter speed will give big impact of your photographs.

This the concept to control aperture . Size of aperture go up and down in increments and known as f-stop. Typical aperture range is f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8,f/11, f/16, and f/22. The bigger f number the narrower aperture, the smaller f number , the wider aperture.

Small Aperture will increase depth of field and you take close up shoot it will ensure the whole scene in focus from front to back. So, it good to shoot landscape and building. Small aperture also allowing shutter motion blur effect and striking light nails on the night.

Wide aperture will reduce depth of field to focused attention to your object while keeping background blurred. This setting good for macro photography.

How about Digital Photography Basics technique for setting shutter speed. This are the concept , shutter speed control the exact amount of time that the lens shutter stays open. Fast shutter speed will freeze movement, while slow shutter speed blur it. Aperture and shutter speed working together to maintain a correct exposure. It sound complex but your SLR work out the correct shutter speed for you when you set the aperture.
